Plan finalised for free pollen allergy camp

The local administration will hold a free pollen allergy relief camp during the first week of March at Aabpara Community Centre.
The ICT administration spokesman said that arrangements are being finalised in cooperation with all concerned departments, he said.
To finalise arrangements, Chief Commissioner (Islamabad) Hamid Ali Khan held a meeting with officials of concerned departments, including District Health Office, ICT administration, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Federal Government Services Hospital, Capital Development Authority, National Institute of Health, National Tib Council, Pakistan Homoeopathic Council, pharmaceutical companies, philanthropists and members of Pollen Allergy Relief Management Society.
The chief commissioner said that with the advent of spring season, people with vulnerable immune system start suffering from pollen and other allergies caused by pollens released by male paper mulberry trees, ‘bhang’ and other species.
The ICT administration, feeling the sensitivity of the problem, started holding free pollen allergy relief camps in the federal capital since 2001 in order to provide maximum relief to allergy patients during spring season.
There are approximately 60,000 to 70,000 allergy patients in the federal capital.
Hamid Ali Khan said that holding of free pollen allergy relief camps in Islamabad during spring season has become a permanent feature since 2001.
Chief Commissioner (Islamabad) Hamid Ali Khan said that three types of treatment facilities are provided to patients in free camps, including homoeopathic, allopathic and ‘tib’. All medicines are provided free of cost to patients, including nebulisers. These medicines are donated by pharmaceutical companies and philanthropists.
He said that the Pollen Allergy Relief Society is working for the elimination of pollen allergy from the capital. Male paper mulberry trees, mainly responsible for causing pollen allergy, are being replaced by environment-friendly trees in phases without affecting the beauty and greenery of Islamabad.
He said that media has also played an important role in creating awareness about the management of ailment among allergy patients. Now they start taking their medicines before the start of allergy season. When the season reaches its peak by mid-March, their immune system is strong enough to the extent that it does not pose any health hazard.
