Workshop on food allergies planned for child-care providers

Star-Gazette

“Food Allergies and the Child Care Setting” is the title of a workshop being presented by Penn State Cooperative Extension from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 25 at the Towanda Area Elementary School’s large conference room.

Child-care providers will learn about common food allergies, the difference between a food allergy and food intolerance, how to recognize food allergens on a food label, and how to manage food allergies in the child-care setting.

Menu planning and legal rights of children with food allergies will be discussed. Child-care providers also will learn how to make an allergy action plan. Extension Nutrition/Food Safety Educator Cathy Guffey will lead the workshop.

Individuals planning to attend are asked to register by March 21. Participants should register online with the PA Key at www.pakeys.org. Contact the Bradford County Extension Office at (570) 265-2896 or toll free at (866) 796-3954 if unable to register online. There is a $3 per person registration fee which can be paid at the workshop.

Child-care providers will receive two Department of Public Welfare training credits for participating in the workshop. Penn State Continuing Education Credits and Act 48 hours also are available.
