How to Read a Shellfish-Free Diet

How to read a shellfish-free diet
Avoid foods with the following ingredients:
1. abalone
2. cerviche
3. clams (all types)
4. cockle
5. crab
6. crawfish/crayfish
7. lobster
8. mollusks
9. mussels
10. octopus
11. oysters
12. prawns
13. scallops
14. shrimp
15. snails/escargot
16. squid
The following may indicate the presence of shellfish proteins:
1. bouillabaisse
2. fish stock
3. seafood flavoring
4. artificial crab (may contain a certain percentage of crab or other shellfish)
Note: Please read labels as foods containing any shellfish should be labeled as such. Use caution with intake of fish. While shellfish and fish are not related foods, you typically find shellfish where you find fish. For example, if you eat at a seafood restaurant, the fish may have been in direct contact with shellfish, and you could therefore have a reaction to the fish!
