How to read a shellfish-free diet

Avoid foods with the following ingredients:
    1. abalone
    2. cerviche
    3. clams (all types)
    4. cockle
    5. crab
    6. crawfish/crayfish
    7. lobster
    8. mollusks
    9. mussels
    10. octopus
    11. oysters
    12. prawns
    13. scallops
    14. shrimp
    15. snails/escargot
    16. squid

The following may indicate the presence of shellfish proteins:

    1. bouillabaisse
    2. fish stock
    3. seafood flavoring
    4. artificial crab (may contain a certain percentage of crab or other shellfish)

Note: Please read labels as foods containing any shellfish should be labeled as such. Use caution with intake of fish. While shellfish and fish are not related foods, you typically find shellfish where you find fish. For example, if you eat at a seafood restaurant, the fish may have been in direct contact with shellfish, and you could therefore have a reaction to the fish!
