Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Nasdaq:
PRGO) have jointly obtained US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval to sell an over-the-counter version of the allergy treatment Zyrtec-D. Teva will manufacture the drug and Perrigo will market it.
Perrigo will market its generic version under store brand labels, and plans to begin shipments in the next 90 days.
Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ) subsidiary McNeil Consumer Healthcare launched its own over-the-counter version of Zyrtec in January. According to Wolters Kluwer data, brand sales of the original prescription strength version of the product totaled $190 million in 2007.
